Mixed ages in Montessori education

One of the pillars of Montessori education is mixed ages. María Montessori proved that in an environment with children of different ages, cooperation takes more prominence than competition; knowledge and support occur more naturally. The little ones learn from the elders and the grown-ups reinforce what they have already learned with their younger classmates. On the other hand, being together for over a year allow children to create bonds and to live together as a community.
